ANM for ECHI Vol. 2

Anna Netri’s works are not objects so much as living ecosystems, shifting with each place and community they meet. Blending sculpture, painting, textiles and digital experiment, ANM for ECHI Vol. 2 embodies adaptability and care — a conversation between vernacular craft and contemporary gesture, between nature and architecture, human and more‑than‑human. Art slips into daily life, briefly reshaping its surroundings and inviting a quieter sense of belonging. Each medium holds traces of landscape, memory and shared experience, forming a single, multisensory thread.

The sculptural piece transforms the Sardinian cork stool and the communal gatherings of Albano di Lucania into a nomadic, multifunctional companion. ANM is bag, stool, table, display and artwork at once — handmade, mutable, and rooted in the rhythms of tradition. Cork, a breathing material, shifts with light, touch and time. Within a wider ecological system, it becomes a portable meeting point of nature, craft and design.

In Arte Nomade Manifesta the beauty of simple gestures — mending, tending, embroidering — runs through the work. Ancestral corredi linens, reimagined as a sheet stitched with tiny fabric mice, recall how deeply we learn from nature and how closely we remain tied to it.

A video piece set in a memory-filled home, in which a woman recounts and revives the old game of fabric mice that once startled and delighted children, shows how time and stories become imprinted in our nature and our bodies.

The installation is completed by another object suspended between practicality and art: a fan depicting scenes of everyday life experienced through the ANM nomadic device. It serves as a visual vehicle for promoting a way of living inspired by a fan held in the collections of the Palais Galliera Fashion Museum in Paris, suggesting how our responses to necessity and our experience of places and environments can be closely intertwined with the making and experiencing of art. Its forms draw inspiration from the feathers of particular geese found in a water reserve in Sheffield, England.

A subsequent development of ANM for Echi Vol. 2, presented at the Nazzano River Museum, takes shape in Arte Ninfe Muta.

Observing the artificial flies crafted by Ferruccio Netri (the artist's cousin) reveals an unexpected aesthetic and artisanal dimension. Like the ANM nomadic device, these creations absorb and respond to their surroundings, bringing together art, technique, and functionality. Words such as nymph, pupa, mayfly, pearl, and surface film are fascinating for the worlds they evoke, while also recalling classical studies, where many of these same terms belong to the realms of Greek and Roman mythology.

Through reinterpretation in textile art, the ANM device, and performance, the project seeks to create a home, a space, a new dimension in which these names, images, and meanings can coexist and become perceptible.
